I've bought another little medical aid for migraine. This time its an inhaler cup.
Even though I said I know my headaches are not related to sinuses, I found out accidentally, that if I eat mints with a headache, especially if the headache is on its way out, the mints really do help me to feel better.
Fuselage fuel fumes on aircraft always give me headaches. Flights these days are very cramped and what with charging around in a coat all day to get to your destination, at the end of a flight is when I always succumb to a major headache.
Through trial and error I've adopted a personal system of fuselage headache avoidance, but even if I do that, I still end up feeling sensitive around the cranium for the next couple of days.
So now what I do is I travel with a packet of mints and and some large tissues and when the plane is about to land, I immediately pop a mint in my mouth and cover my nose and mouth with the tissue. I turn off all the air vents and keep my mouth covered, until I am well away from the aircraft.
Fuselage fuel fumes can also make me feel incredibly sick, so this precaution is very sensible in the circumstances.
Three years ago all my migraines caused me terrible vomiting. My Dad suffers from the same affliction and he always says its better to be sick, because then the headache doesn't last as long.
Well I had been quite sick on this occasion and when I eventually appeared for dinner, my daughter had ordered a Mojito. She drank most of it and because the waiter took a long time to bring my glass of tap water, she offered me the remains of her Mojito, which amounted to lots of melted ice and a few mint leaves.
Immediately I noticed the mint was soothing my stomach and clearing my head. It was quite mysterious and since then I use mints to help me. But probably not enough, hence I bought the inhaler because I intend to inhale Vicks when I've a bad headache next time.
Last night I managed to take a really long bath. The room wasn't heated which on reflection was probably a good thing. I topped up the water three times with very hot water and each time I felt a million aches and pains ebb away.
The bath helped me to sleep more deeply and this morning I woke up feeling refreshed and totally headache free.
Bending down with migraine gives me a very nasty throbbing in the right temple, when this sensation stops, that's how I'm able to judge if I can resume my life.
The other thing I want to buy to help me is a hot pad of some description for my neck, what I mean is I need it to stay neck-shaped. Reason for this is that I store most of my tension in my neck and shoulders and it does help me to apply gentle heat to that region at times of great stress.
I'll update on here soon with pictures of all my new migraine aids.
